FREEDOM SECURITY BANK
Freedom Security Bank is a family-owned, locally committed community bank, combining the best of small town accessibility and friendliness with the same high quality products and services provided by the “big banks”, to truly provide a “One-Of-A-Kind” banking experience to our customers.
Freedom Security Bank was founded in 1899 as Farmers Savings Bank in Kalona, IA, which today is a town of over 2,500 people about 20 miles southwest of the Iowa City, IA area (Iowa City is home to the University of Iowa). Farmers Savings Bank had a legacy of strong family leadership and commitment to the community through the Skola family, dating back to Fred Skola, Sr.’s employment with the bank in 1903. The Skola family acquired ownership of the bank and had three generations that served as bank President prior to the family’s sale of the bank to Central Bancshares in 1994.
Central Bancshares also owns Central State Bank in nearby Muscatine, Iowa. Central State Bank has a similar legacy of local ownership and community commitment, with five generations of the same family being involved (and still actively involved) in the operation of the bank.
In 2002 Farmers Savings Bank built a new branch in the Iowa City area, in the adjacent city of Coralville (on the 1st Ave. and Holiday Road “roundabout” near Brown Deer Golf Course). To reflect its new, broader market, the bank changed its name to “Freedom Security Bank”.
Today, Freedom Security Bank customers enjoy “One-Of-A-Kind” banking service at its Kalona and Coralville locations, and online at fs-bank.com.
